One of the ways UUCW supports In The Hour of Need (IHN) family shelter is by hosting the guests in their home. Our first week is the week of January 14 through January 20, 2024. IHN works in partnership with the faith community to provide shelter and assistance to families with children who are homeless. The program’s primary goals are to assist families in increasing their income and to help them secure permanent housing, while providing the critical support services necessary for them to succeed.
I invite you to sign up for an evening (5:30-8:30) or an overnight slot (8:30 pm-6:30 am Sun-Thurs/8:30 pm-8:30 am Fri & Sat).
New people are welcome. The families are wonderful, the children play together and they all take care of each other. The families make their own dinner so you can bring something for yourself if you’d like as the evening host. There are cots for sleeping and you bring your own bedding for the overnight host. All that is required of you is to be there for support. If you’re crafty and want to engage the children, please do.
New people will receive a tour of the house and review their guidelines before volunteering. You may also join someone that has already signed up or visit Sheri at 91 June Street, Worcester for a tour. If you’ve been thinking about it or have questions, please email me at sueneaz at townisp dot com.
Thank you!!! – Sue Neaz
